About America in General
Many people were asking me to write about America. In fact I wrote to some of my friends before but I lost the files so I decided I would write again.
General: America is divided in to three time zones. The places in the east follow the time known as the Eastern Time. The places in the west follow the time known as the Pacific Time. The places in the middle follow the time known as the Central Time. The Eastern Time is nine and a half hours behind Indian Standard Time. The Central Time is one hour behind Eastern Time and the Pacific Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Time. The seasons here are Spring(March to May), Summer(June to August), Fall (October to December) and Winter (December to February). The temperature varies across the country due to the presence of sea. During summer the sun sets around 10.30 PM and during winter the sun sets around 4.00 PM.
Rail Transport: There are a couple of rail companies which are operating trains like the Amtrak. The network is good and passes through all the major cities. But usually the trains are not direct and we have to connect at a different place and the train not necessarily follows the shortest path. This makes the Road travel and Air Travel more favorite among the people here.
Road Transport: The roads are parallel to each other and intersect at right angles. They are very well planned. There are freeways which are basically expressways which do not have traffic lights. So there is smooth flow of traffic all around. Each freeway runs either from North to South (odd numbered) or East to West (Even numbered). The speed in the freeway varies from state to state. The maximum speed in our state is 70 Miles/hr. These freeways run across the states. Then there are state highways and public roads with varying maximum speeds. Here the cops are given laser guns with which they determine the speed at which a particular car is going and give tickets if the speed is over the maximum limit.
Shopping Malls: Shopping is a favorite pass time for most of the Americans. There are shopping malls which contain many small shops as well as big ones. There are many shopping chains like Farmer Jack, K mart, Meijer, Hudsons, JC Penny, Walmart, Arbor Drugs, Kroger, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, Joe Randazo, India Groceries, Toys or Us, Kids or Us etc. These chains have locations all over America. If we go to any shopping mall we will find a store of these. Farmer Jack has more of Dairy products. K mart has everything from clothes, jewelry, electronics, shoes, dairy products etc. The size of these shops is very huge and they will be around 2 floors of 1 Sq. Km area each.
